CHRISTMAS DAY MASSES: 7:30 (low) and 11:00 (high) - Holy Name of Jesus - Providence Fr. Michael Wooley, pastor of St. Joseph Church in Woonsocket, will celebrate a sung Mass at Precious Bllod Church, 94 Carrington Ave, Woonsocket, RI at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday 28 December. The Mass will be preceded by a concert of sacred Christmas music at 6:30 p.m. performed by the Schola Sanctae Caeciliae under the direction of Henri St. Louis. During the Mass the schola will sing William Byrd's Mass for Four Voices. A free-will offering wil be taken up to benefit the Mother of Life Center in Providence. For more info, please call Fr. The Traditional Latin Mass
The famed English Oratorian priest, Fr. Frederick Faber, a convert to the Faith who wrote many familiar and beloved Catholic hyms including "Faith of Our Fathers" and "Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All", called the traditional Latin Mass "the most beautiful thing this side of Heaven". We can find no cause to disagree with Fr. Faber. Unchanged in any of its essentials for fifteen centuries, it continues to have a strong appeal to many Catholics - young and old - who have found in this Mass the most fitting expression of Catholic worship.
The dignity and solemnity of the ancient Roman Rite provides a "sense of the sacred", while the rich treasury of prayers, actions, and symbols perfectly exemplify the unchanging Catholic teaching on the Sacrifice of the Mass and the True Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.
In The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, encompassing all of Rhode Island, the traditional Latin Mass has been offered regularly since 1994 at Holy Name of Jesus Church. Since Pope Benedict's motu proprio Summorum Pontificum took effect on 14 September 2007 at least five other parishes in the Diocese of Providence have begun to offer Mass in the "Extraordinary Form" on a regular basis.
